  • Confirm placement of an endotracheal tube
  • Identify a pneumothorax
  • Determine the deepest pocket of fluid to facilitate the drainage of a pleural effusion
  • Look for evidence of pericardial tamponade and describe the steps required to perform a pericardiocentesis
  • Determine the deepest pocket of fluid to facilitate performing a paracentesis
  • Mark the location for needle insertion prior to performing a lumbar puncture
